these drums actually constitute what would have originally been volume 4 and 5 before the masters were initially thought to have been lost in a flood that gutted the studio where, up until then, the drum library series were made. fortuitously perhaps, these last two “orphaned” volumes were discovered safe & sound in a storage unit just as vol.15 was wrapping up. we’ve compiled them both here in one special edition volume.

im sommer 2016 landete ben frost in chicago, um mit steve albini zu arbeiten. Über zwei wochen hinweg wurden in einem höhlenartigen studio mehr als zwei stunden musik aufgenommen. -threshold of faith- ist die erste veröffentlichung mit musik aus dieser session. inkl. dl-code als schwarzes vinyl. das cover hat einen glossy-print sowie einen großen pantone-druck.

after the creation of computer disco lp (1982), marcello giombini produces the year after i adore commodore - computer music flash, which was mainly made with a commodore 64. giombini was a veteran of music applications with personal computer, started with an apple ii europlus and then converted to the commodore 64 thanks to the presence of 3 independent music generators that allowed him to make more elaborate music easier. the record was inspired by the videogames of the time, so that the titles of the 10 tracks are inspired by the names of famous games. the music was created using four to eleven commodore 64 programmed and synchronized with an external audio interface. at the time, giombini, in his studio in a basement just a few steps from nomentana, rome, had organized a small school with courses of basic and computer music. the graphic is the same of original lp with inner-sleeve dedicated to commodore 64.

camea returns with the third release on her neverwhere imprint, titled vanish , this spring. in her new single, she digs deep on her drum machine into studio 1-esque territory, using alluring classic minimal techno grooves as a back drop for her seductively soulful, selfconflicted vocals. camea not only captures a timeless micro-house vibe in this piece, but she continues to push her sound forward as well as her love for avant-guard techno. up next is delft imprint boss, la-4a, best known for his analogue vintage roland drum machine productions. he has laid down an irresistible 303 break-beat club mix of camea s track in the a2 spot. his dance cut of her vocals over bass driven percussion is a perfect counter piece to the original, and compliments the sound from his recent acid techno album phonoautograph . on the flip side, berlin techno legend and ostgut ton/berghain resident tobias. gives his graceful interpretation. he has reworked the original into a tasteful, dark, spacious 8-minute minimal techno piece, with percolating panning and filters on the vocals. as usual with tobias., he clearly conveys his undeniable expertise and instinct for exquisite dance music. with this release, camea is also marking the 2nd anniversary of her cult neverwhere radio show this spring, having produced twenty-four, two-hour episodes with exclusive dj mixes and guests. the show currently has residencies on digitally imported, tsugi radio and ibiza sonica, and camea has quickly established herself as a driving force in the left-field techno community, and a passionate advocate of underground radio.

austin-based musician eliot lipp delivers “skywave”, an album lipp has been working on for the past several months. with influences from sci-fi soundtracks and 70s and 80s funk, he channels a collection of weird, high-definition, melodic beats. in these nine songs lipp feels he “might have everything i want to say in one moment.” recreating key musical moments in a current and relatable way was the goal in producing skywave and giving himself permission to take some risks as well. with a versatile approach, lipp has created opportunities to connect with some of the artists he first looked up to, playing in cities across america and abroad always returning to his hometown in the pacific northwest. collaboration plays a role in all his albums. he’s been a fan of emancipator for a years now and was beyond excited to get his “not quite awake” remix. he asked dmc champ chris karns to scratch on ‘joyride’. in addition to doing cuts, chris ended up playing live drums and layering unique vocal samples. ‘reflection’ came from a jam session with gibbz and cherub in their nashville studio. one of lipp’s biggest musical influences last year came from a group of producers from seattle that call themselves fish tank friends. most of them had a hand in the early stages of ‘spiders’. with monthly trips planned from texas back to washington, he anticipates more evenings surrounded by friends, fans, and new listeners where he brings everyone together through the touch of a button.

as noted on another release (see ropin), cornell campbell has enjoyed one of the longest-running careers of any jamaican singer, and he is blessed with a readily identifiable style too. he began his career for clement ‘sir coxsone’ dodd in 1956, when rhythm and blues held sway in jamaica, and later cut some ska songs for king edwards. he then passed through the sensations in the rock steady phase and worked as a solo singer at treasure isle, before returning to studio one with the eternals, scoring huge hits such as ‘stars’ and ‘queen of the minstrel’ as the 60s gave way to the 70s. his greatest phase of popularity was them brokered by hit-making producer bunny lee, who kept him on top right through the 1970s and into the 80s. the 1975 album dance in a greenwich farm was first issued on the grounation label in the uk. along with a re-working of ‘stars’ re-titled ‘the sun,’ a re-working of ‘queen of the minstrel’ as ‘girl of my dreams’ and the sound system opus that is the title track, the album has the boastful ‘conquering gorgon’ and a number of keenly-observed cover tunes, including a cut of the gaylads’ ‘no good girl,’ a version of the heptones’ ‘why did you leave me’ and a killer cut of the uniques’ ‘watch this sound’ (based on ‘for what it’s worth’ by buffalo springfield).

one of the most important harmony groups in the entirety of jamaican music, the paragons have a long and complicated history. first formed in the ska years by bob andy and tyrone evans as the duo of andy and ronnie, the group soon expanded to a quartet through the addition of howard barrett and john holt, the latter naturally assuming lead duties, following the subsequent departure of andy, holt, evans and barrett made the paragons the quintessential rock steady trio. they had an incredible run of hits for duke reid and coxsone during the mid-to-late ‘60s, and also issued some self-produced work, before holt’s solo career skyrocketed, leaving the group on the back-burner. then, in the mid-1970s, the paragons reformed, cutting material for new york-based labels such as clocktower and clintones, which led to this intriguing album, which saw material recorded in jamaica at harry j for bunny lee mixed with work cut at bullwackie’s studio in the bronx, along with re-workings of classics such as ‘left with a broken heart’ and ‘memories by the score’ is a whole range of new material, dealing with contemporary themes.

bristol based arkist has always been a versatile producer and as a result has an impressive rage of releases under his belt, with revered imprints such as hotflush and hypercolour. recently he has been experimenting further in the studio and is ready to present his first 12inch in few years, under a brand new alias - astrocat. in this debut, self-titled ep it is instantly apparent that vocoder-infused funk and disco of the highest order can be expected from this new astrocat guise. the ep is full of vintage talk box vocals, warm spacey chords and infectious basslines that bring classic records from the likes of zapp and the rah band into mind. with 5 tracks this ep has a lot to offer. wether it be the raw, funked up james of the opener small talk and title track astrocat or the more chilled, woozy grooves of nightflare . with features from mr woodnote and a dub remix from appleblim this ep s roots sit firmly in the south west. local legend dj die even lent his vocoder to the studio for some of the recordings.

oraculo records looks to the past in very few occasions and monomen deserves to be one of the exceptions. the norvegian band momonen released back in 2007 one of the best electronic post-punk albums of the beginning of xxi centurty on trust me records, not only for the music quality but because all the band members had only 19 years old at the time. suddenly the band gets dissolved after only 1 ep and 1 album. now, 10 years later, oraculo records proudly recovers the best tracks of their album (+1 one of the previous ep) on a record that will be very searched and valued. all tracks mastered and remastered specially for vinyl by eric van wonterghem at prodam studio (berlin).

minimal signals” is the most succesful and valued v.a. serie of the label to date and is here again but this time released on dark men records to make it more affordable. this chapter is another radiography of the most relevant and surprising actual minimal projects out there, including tracks by i tpame i tvrame, wicked crafts, adam tristar, we are not brothers and ferdinand cärclash. all tracks has been remastered by eric van wonterghem at prodam studio (berlin).

before boogie funk had a resurgence in 2012, ruckazoid was dropping rare funk albums in 2004. his demos were floating around la, but it wasn’t until 2009 that breakbot remixed ruckazoid’s original “life’s fantasy”, which was later released in 2011 as an original track titled “fantasy” on ed banger records. fantasy became a breakout hit scoring a #1 single on itunes. in 2013 when daft punk released “get lucky” featuring pharrell, funk was officially back in the mainstream. those in the know knew breakbot & ruckazoid helped rekindle the funk flame worldwide. after all, the label ed banger is headed by busy p, and busy p managed daft punk. suprinsingly, ruckazoid did not tour with breakbot, opting to stay in the studio to record more albums. amazing lover being one of these albums, with love game becoming the lead track.

all original organic groove trip hop coming out of cincinnati ohio. analog recorded, hard hitting vintage funk drums, thick grooving bass lines, meticulous guitar riffs, soulful electric piano’s & hammond organs create an original soundscape of emotion & groove. this music (we feel) is in a class of it’s own. we are not trying to duplicate a sound of yesteryear but explore a distinct natural sound of our own.
in 2016 grimez brought some of cincinnati’s best musicians in the studio to record raw analog recordings using vintage gear. guitarist brad myers currently has a phenomenal jazz cd out “prime numbers.” organ/keyboard prodigy, j-skillz, is a frequent session musician for hi-tek. tim hensley is the drummer for the cliftones, a reggae band that is touring and receiving well deserved national notoriety. the remaining musicians all have degrees in jazz and perform in many shows throughout cincinnati.

when he s not busy in the studio or touring the world with his running mate hans (junktion) as fouk.. daniel leseman takes time for his own solo projects and we re pleased to be able to release two vintage daniel leseman groovers on a piece of 10inch vinyl for the 7th stop in our kolour ltd 10inch series.

karen gwyer returns to cement her reputation as one of the most individual and daring voices in dance music with rembo , her first full lp for don t be afraid, following a debut on the label in late 2016 with the prophase anaphase metaphase telophase ep. reflecting the sheer energy of gwyer s improvised, undulating and unpredictable live shows, rembo captures gwyer in her element as a techno producer not afraid to smudge both the physical and emotional edges of what we may have come to expect in the club. live performance is where gwyer s ideas come into gradual but vivid fruition, with tracks often evolving over -five or six shows- before reaching the studio. here, gwyer endeavours to capture the same transcendent energy that has seen her enrapture audiences at international events such as mutek and unsound, and in support of contemporaries such as laurel halo, kassem mosse and factory floor. throughout rembo , dozens of shows and endless stolen studio hours have informed 38 minutes of uncompromising body music. rembo is a record that calls firmly to the night, an album to transport both artist and listener to dark, sweaty rooms, to shared escapism and unexpected moments of electronic transcendence. from the first note forward, on record and in the club, karen gwyer is an artist in total control, no matter where she ends up taking us

the first clouded vision recordings release of 2017 comes from label owner matt walsh teaming up with stratowerx aka sam russo. the ep is completed with a remix from one of matt’s long-term studio partners, scott fraser, who makes a long awaited debut on the label. the three tracks were recorded over the course of 2016, with the two producers sending parts back and forth via email and the result sees a clear middle ground of minimalistic analogue electro and techno. scott’s surface pressure remix turns the first track “no function” into a dark drexciyan electro brooder, rounding off the ep very nicely indeed.

(get bad). the result? one of the most unlikely and essential party records of 2017. queen and house music: not necessarily the most obvious of bedfellows, but music for freaks has never been a label to take the path most travelled. over the course of their de-cades long journey the label founded by luke solomon and justin harris has released uni-quely idiosyncratic dance music, establishing the label as a go-to imprint for those seeking imaginative, unpredictable records that still undeniably work on the dancefloor. their latest release might well be among the most out-there of them all. originally released back in 1984,two sharp pencils (get bad) is a record by queen drum-mer roger taylor, featuring him on vocals as well as drums, bass & guitar. now brought bang up to date via a fully official and endorsed remix courtesy of anna wall & corbi, this overlooked album track looks set to become one of the summers most essential records. born and bred in the uk, anna wall is a dj, producer and label owner who is a key player in london’s underground house music scene. her label the bricks champions up-and-coming producers, while anna herself has djd all over the world, most recently for mixmag at pacha for their ims launch party. corbi is an ibiza-based dj and producer, a&r for the highly respected fina records and co-founder of melon bomb, a party and dj collective that has in the space of just a couple of years become one of the white isles most talked-about exports. having met while working at house giant defected records some years ago, anna felt that corbi would be the perfect studio accomplice to work on the remix of two sharp pencils.

the difusion crew turned some heads last year with the low-key release of their first grip of cult edits, and now they re back with a second installment that keeps the source material obscure, the treatment respectful and the vibes pure and positive. -someday- is a killer simmering slice of disco funk, while -on the scene- slows things down and turns up the 70s bombast with philly strings and brass blasts aplenty. -freaksta- takes things in a more cosmic direction, while -right now- aims right for studio 54 indebted flamboyance, all stirring diva vocals and bold production to get everyone freaking the right way.

manchester producer anz self-titled debut comes at the crest of two years scenewide hype around her breathless brand of uk club music. also the maiden release from local club night-cum-label chow down, the record is as much informed by anz time as the nights most in-demand resident dj as by her instincts in the studio.these are tracks shaped by a good few encounters with manchester s roiling 2 a.m. crowds. this isn t to suggest a uniform sound anz ear for interplay brings her many influences together in sprawling constellations of style. jolting to life on the bassline- and funky-referencing steel percussion romp panrico, the record then slows to a half-time 808 lurch on clanger. the flip sees loa flex dense polyrhythms and coarse sublow bass before fencin brings it home in a final flourish of crystalline synthwork

polish beatmaker pawel strzelczyk has been slinging out all manner of beats as teilete since 2010, largely on the u know me label, but now he brings his dynamic technicolour sound to father & son to surely catapult his skills to a wider audience. there s a rich musicality at work throughout magnetic soul/magnetic tree, as blues samples, rich orchestration, dubstep rhythms, juke patterns and soulful vocals all swirl around in a highly accomplished blender. the attention to detail is remarkable and the production is pristine, but for all the daring ideas and studio skill this is also an incredibly immediate listen that draws you in from the start.

nick mackrory & harry collier’s musical partnership dates all the way back to the 90’s, when they were both deeply invested in the musical boom in the uk that followed acid house, the rave scene, and the ibiza experience. nick went from drumsticks to turntables to studio wizardry, while harry honed in on his golden voice - which led him to a stint as a singer for faithless. they found their way back to each other in 2014 and have since developed a sound together that is fresh but not too polished. with touches of 60’s chanson coupled with sundazed electronics, their songs linger on like the feeling of a long day spent outdoors in summer.
this album collects their previously released singles for music for dreams along with exclusive new material and a number of remixes, edits and alternate versions that together form a mesmerizing listening experience.

frits wentink s bobby donny label returns with a new ep from icelandic producer felix leifur. it s not often someone other than the boss releases on this label so you know this new one is quality indeed. leifurwho also works as david & hjalti and davíð sveinn bjarnason has two solid eps to his name on dirt crew. they show him to be a producer of succulent deep house and atmospheric prone beats. across four cuts here he offers jazzy vibes, organic percussive patterns and authentic styles filled with warmth and soul. opener unidentified blues is a loose jumbled of hi hats and cymbals, rhodes chords and shuffling drums that could well come from the studio of a certain moodymann. they are alive and enriched with real feeling from start to finish. hampton is another tender fusion of deep kick drums, tape echo and curious melodies all tied together by jostling groove that is beautifully incidental and unhurried. contact then brings more proper jazz drums to the table, with distant sax sounds and closely miced hits and spaces of cymbal all feeling loose and free as they suck you into their world. last of all, universal rim picks up the pace with a more rooted house groove, freeform percussion and wooden hits and trilling, echo drenched melodies all making for an intoxicating cut

sometimes amongst all the music that we hear every day, something comes along so unique and brilliant that its captivates your mind and soul and refuses to let go. that was exactly what happened when we first heard dokta - the ex-studio engineer with the freshest take on electronic music we have heard for a long time. fusing a fully analog working method & live instrumentation with a breathtakingly unique arrangement style, dokta combines all his experience working with some of the best in the business and transcends it into one hypnotic stream of genre defying mastery. for his first ep on 20/20 we are fortunate enough to have remixes from fabric resident jay clarke, and a collaborative contribution from seth troxler and bas ibellini. it is a major milestone for 20/20 to finally have a seth troxler production on the label. he has been a great inspiration for us and hugely supportive of our output over the years. seth went into the studio with good friend bas and came out with a remix worthy of dokta s long abstract arrangements. we hope you enjoy, and with an album in the pipeline for later this year we promise there is a lot more to come
